Summer 2022

What a summer! It goes in a flash and now we are preparing for winter training runs and races.

What happened over the summer? We had quite a few race cancellations and it’s been a strange few months, but things are slowly picking up. We know as a sport entries for races have been down 20% across the board so let’s hope next year it picks up and some of our favourite races get to go ahead in 2023!

We (the committee) thought we would do a little round up of what went on, just in case you have forgotten.

Cosmeston Relays – Pegs put out a staggering 10 teams for the relay this year and we all had a fabulous evening. It is such a friendly local race and enjoyed by everyone.

Summer Series – 4 distances put on by Cardiff Running Events who have struggled this year with numbers and unfortunately had to cancel a few of their races. The series starts with the 1 mile and then goes to 2, 3 and finishes with a 4 mile race. There was a Peg at each race, and our very own Colin Crooks came 3rd  his age category. The races are in Llandaff Fields and a great way to test your shorter distance speed efforts.

Rack Raid – Wow! That was a very hot day but as usual a finely tuned event put on by Fairwater Runners (Cwmbran), whilst over in Cardiff, we had a contingent sweating it out at the Cardiff Bay 10k with a sweltering out and back on the barrage.

Mic Morris 10k aka Torfaen 10k – 4/5? Pegs ladies ran this race on a very warm day and were even mentioned in the local paper

Magor 10k – What a difference a day makes! It was very wet and made for a totally different experience to the previous time this was put on. 3 Pegs ran this and were supported by 2 others. Flat and very well organised and a great race if you are looking for a 10k pb.

Rose Inn Series – 4 races across the summer consisting of 2 laps on a very flat course leading to a 4 mile route. Pegs were represented at 3 of the races this year which were extremely warm. Definitely one for the diary next year if you have not tried it before.

CPR – a 2 day marathon spread over 5 events. Another event put on by Cardiff Running Events and is full of fun and enthusiasm. It’s great to take part and this year so very nearly didn’t happen so we are very grateful to the organisers. Don’t be put off, give it a go!

And as for parkrun – Pegs have been travelling the globe this summer and gone as far afield as America, Germany, Italy, Sweden. As well as our local parkruns, which have been well supported. This summer we saw the opening of Llanishen which now means Cardiff has 5 different events.

Now we have our very own Pegs banner and flag we will be far more prominent at races. Here’s looking forward to Autumn 2022 onwards.
